ResumoAn attempt is made to explain the persistence of rural-urban migration in the chieftainship of Mwase Lundazi Zambia even after the area had changed in character from a labor reserve to a booming peasant economy. The study is based on research carried out in four villages in 1977-1978. It is concluded that the persistence of this migration can be explained by the poor prospects of young people who usually face poverty in a rural as well as in an urban context and who experience great difficulty in setting up independent households and establishing themselves as successful farmers.
