ResumoThe bronchodilator and cardiac effects of 5 pressure-packed metered dose aerosols—Medihaler Isoforte, Medihaler Bron, Medihaler Epi, Alupent and Ventolin—were compared by administration to 21 asthmatic patients. Ventolin was found to be a rapid, potent and long-acting bronchodilator and without cardiac effects. Alupent and Medihaler Epi were significantly less effective. Medihaler Isoforte and Medihaler Bron, while not more effective than Ventolin, caused tachycardia, electrocardiographic changes, and in one patient paroxysmal nodal tachycardia. It is suggested that salbutamol (Ventolin) is the aerosol of choice.
