ResumoThe effect of three intercalative drugs on the in vitro reaction of bleomycin with DNA was determined. In the presence of proflavine, ethidium bromide, or actinomycin D, the bleomycin-induced breakage of native, double-stranded DNA is enhanced. This increased level of fragmentation is seen in the presence or absence of 2-mercaptoethanol, and is dependent on the presence of the native, double-stranded DNA structure.
