ResumoThe performance of real-time systems depends or the combination of data acquisition and processing times. Programmed input-output is too slow and data channels are insufficiently flexible for general use with CAMAC. The provision of a separate peripheral processor gives optimum real-time performance. The overall design philosophy and the implications for system software are discussed.
