Resumo

Abstract Absorption spectra for Cu, Ag and Au atoms isolated in H 2 , D 2 , N 2 and CH 4 matrices are shown and the matrix influence on these spectra is evaluated. Unlike the inert gases, these matrices cause an unusually large crystal field splitting of the metal atom n P 3 2 level. Distinct differences in the spectra for isolation in H 2 and D 2 are found and discussed.
