ResumoMany authorities have referred to the need for field measurements of hillslopes. The methods commonly adopted do not necessarily provide the kind and quantity of data that would be most useful in slope analysis. A simple instrument has been designed in an attempt to overcome some of the main limitations of existing methods. The advantages of the new device include its suitability for the surveying of slopes of very different relief scales and its prolific yield of data; the slope surveyor using this instrument does not require specialized training or the aid of a field assistant.
