We often forget how blunt some of the tools of medicine are, and we place side by side, almost without a thought, measurements in micrograms and in fingerbreadths. Fortunately, our clinical needs usually are met to a passable extent by approximations and estimates. The epidemiologist and the clinical investigator, on the other hand, find that the lack of precision and reproducibility characterizing many clinical measurements gives trouble in making close comparisons, plotting distribution curves, and combining the...References1.
