Beta-hexosaminidase activity in plasma and urine was measured and compared in insulin dependent diabetics (IDDM) with and without proliferative retinopathy. No difference in the activity of betahexosaminidase was found between the two groups indicating that this enzyme is not involved in the development of diabetic microangiopathy.
