Abstract At the turn of this century, William Blanson white visited Hippolyte Bernheim and hia hospital at Nancy. He commented briefly on both in his autobiography. The latter is not widely known, 80 it seems appropriate and of interest to publish the account in a journal devoted to hypnosis. White achieved a position of stature as a psychiatrist and served 85 President of the American Psychiatric Association. Bemheim, a prominent psychotherapist of his day, was aaaociated with Liebeault 85 a leader of the Nancy School in the ParkNancy hypnosis controversy. White's account of Bernheim is mninimnt of the better known description of Likbeault by J. Milne Bnunwell in the latter's classic volume on hypnotism.
