Resumo

Abstract The amylase isoenzymes of 9 species of the genus Datura and 4 interspecific somatic hybrids were compared by acrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of starch. Most species investigated showed only one transparent band after I2 treatment of the gels representing amylase activity. The electrophoretic pattern of the amylases of the Datura species was different except for D. discolor and D. quercifolia. All the somatic hybrids had two bands representing the amylase activity of the species combined by protoplast fusion.
