ResumoElectron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis (ESCA) and high-resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) have been used to explore the phenomena occuring on the C3S∗ surface in the very early stages of hydration. Definite changes in the surface morphology and Ca to Si ratio were observed already after a few seconds of hydration.
