Resumo

Activity was greater in 1969 than 1968, principally because of increased exploration in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunel. More than 160 exploratory wells were drilled throughout the Far East and an increased number of seismic crews were active as operators evaluated their holdings. Four significant discoveries, 3 in Indonesia and 1 in Brunei, were made. Interest focused on Indonesia as 8 companies were granted exploration rights to 9 new areas. Atlantic-Richfield (formerly Sinclair) made 2 discoveries in the Java Sea off Indonesia. Sarawak Shell drilled 20 of the 24 wildcats completed in Malaysia, Amoco and Wintershall AG were granted new exploration licenses in Pakistan. Phillips confirmed its second 1968 discovery in Papua by completing its Pasca A2 well.
