Natural Language Processing Techniques

A good deal of work has been done over the years trying to demonstrate the feasibility or superiority of automatic indexing techniques. (1--8) Most of these techniques are designed for natural language systems, i. e., systems which have an uncontrolled vocabulary. While they incorporate many desirable features, they also have some disadvantages.
