Heart block is one of the more common disorders of the heartbeat and is exceeded in frequency only by atrial fibrillation, premature beats, and paroxysmal atrial tachycardia (1). The prognosis with medical treatment varies according to the underlying cause, with an average duration of life after discovery of from 2.5 to 7 years (2, 3). In a series of 100 cases reported by Friedberg, Donoso, and Stein (4) the mortality at the end of 1 year was 50% with an...References1. FRIEDBERG CK: Diseases of the Heart, 3rd ed. W. B.
