Formalmente a Educação Patrimonial é trabalhada pelo Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico de Minas Gerais – IEPHA/MG – há pouco tempo. Algumas ações foram realizadas para envolver as comunidades desde a década de 1980, mas nunca se seguiu de forma contínua e sistemática. As primeiras ações visavam uma efetiva participação da comunidade. Depois sentiu-se necessidade de uma maior fundamentação teórica. Por meio da parceria entre a Secretaria de Estado da Educação e a Fundação João Pinheiro foi discutida uma nova metodologia de ação educativa e cultural. Porém, foi com a criação do ICMS Cultural que se conseguiu uma maior expansão do conceito “educar pela memória” por diversos municípios do Estado. AbstractRecently Heritage Education has taken place at the State Institute of Historical and Artistic Heritage of Minas Gerais - IEPHA/MG. Some actions have been taken to involve communities since the 1980s, but they have never followed continuously and systematically. The first actions aimed at effective community participation. Then, there was the need for a better theoretical basis. Through the partnership between the State Secretary of Education and the João Pinheiro Foundation, a new methodology of educational and cultural action was discussed. But it was the creation of the Cultural ICMS that provided further expansion of the concept "education through memory" for many municipalities in the state.Keywords: Education; Heritage; Cultural ICMS; Cultural Action.
