Portugal and Brazil had in the 30's authoritarians political governments that had the same designation: New State. Although the specific characteristics and different length, it is important to analyze the social networks established between architecture and State during the governments of Salazar and Vargas. The paper takes a parallel look on these relations, marked by advances and setbacks, which contributed to the construction of their modern cultural heritage and national identities.
