ResumoThe development of bushwalking as a recreational activity has received little serious historical attention and yet, arguably, it is the most popular relationship of Australians to the bush. Before the organisation and commercialisation of bushwalking in the interwar years narrowed the possibilities, walking in the bush for pleasure took a number of different forms. Focusing on the bushwalks of John Le Gay Brereton and Percy Grainger this article explores how walking could be the means of expressing a sensual, at times sexual, appreciation of the Australian bush.
