Resumo

Abstract Cyathostoma cacatua n. sp. is described: it is the first species of the genus recorded from New Zealand and the first known from a parrot. The specimens were recovered from the airsacs of an aged female sulphur-crested cockatoo Cacatua galerita. Cyathostoma cacatua is separated from all other species by the different spicule length and gubernaculum, the position of the vulva, the singularly operculated eggs and the absence of bosses in the circumoral region. An emended generic diagnosis and a key to Cyathostoma species is provided.
