ResumoThe Uonuma group, located in the Niigata oil field, represents the upper part of a thick and mostly continuous series of late Cenozoic sediments, in which only the Uonuma is of nonmarine origin. Two main magnetozones and four subzones are recognized and correlated with the Matuyama Reversed and Brunhes Normal polarity epochs. Pollen spectra indicate a climatic deterioration between the Jaramillo Event and the Brunhes/Matuyama boundary, possibly commencing during the Jaramillo Event.
