ResumoMicroscopic characterization by TEM, EELS and EXAFS, in combination with adsorption studies on a macroscopic scale using a tapered element oscillating microbalance, revealed that the accessibility of the micropores in over-exchanged Fe/ZSM-5 prepared via FeCl3 sublimation is retarded by pore blocking caused by iron species in the zeolite pores. As a result, the potentially active sites which are located deeply inside the zeolite do not contribute significantly to the activity of the catalyst towards the selective catalytic reduction of NO by isobutane.
