ResumoA preorganized zipper: The entropic penalty for duplex formation is significantly smaller for the backbone-simplified nucleic acid analogue GNA (glycol nucleic acid) than for DNA. This finding is consistent with a conformational preorganization of the single strands in combination with especially favorable stacking interactions in the corresponding GNA duplex (see picture).
