Resumo

The hemocytes of Ligia oceanica occur in three stages which form a single developmental series from the undifferentiated hyaline stage through the semigranular stage to the mature granulocyte. All three stages undergo pseudopodial ameboid movement, but this is most vigorous in the mature granulocyte, the only stage in which phagocytosis is apparent. Only the hyaline stage explodes but the semigranular and granular stages degenerate, vacuolate, lyse, and then die, in vitro.
