Full multiplicity distributions for e+e− → hadrons and the modified negative binomial distribution

ResumoMultiplicity distributions for negatively charged particles in e+e− → hadrons measured by the ALEPH, DELPHI and OPAL Collaborations at √s=91.2 GeV, with the combined statistics of 200 000 events, and those obtained at lower energies are perfectly described by the modified negative binomial distribution with the generating function M(x)={[1+Δ(1−x)][1+r(1−x)]}7 with two parameters Δ and r. Possible models of branching processes leading to this distribution are discussed.
