Measurement of the Angular Distribution of the Crystallographic c -Axis in a Crystal of CsCdBr 3 :Pr 3+ using Hole-Burning Stark Spectroscopy

ResumoA measurement of the angular distribution (θ) of the crystallographic c-axis of CsCdBr3 has been made using hole-burning Stark spectroscopy. Assuming this distribution to be Gaussian, we deduce a characteristic r.m.s. width σe of (11 ± 2)°. This measurement optically confirms the observation of stacking disorder by X-ray and electron diffraction in a pure crystal of the AMX3 type and shows a new method for the characterization of high crystalline quality.
