ResumoThink electrophilic: While the classical π-excessive indole is well-known for its electrophilic substitutions at position C3, recent advances in asymmetric catalysis resulted in a surge in utilizing the less discussed electrophilic properties of iminium-type intermediates (see picture) in complex annulations of indoles. Advances in AuI catalysis also allow an umpolung of the classical indole C3 reactivity.
