ResumoIntercellular antibodi es have been discovered in a patient wi t h a Trichophyton rubrum infection .Immunoflu orescen t (IMF) a nd co mplemen t fixing a n t ibody t iters correlated well with clini cal sy mptoms. No p enicillin sen sit ivity was presen t.Whi le absorp t ion with a proper ratio of trichophyton a n t igen re moved a ll IMF a ntibod ies from th ese sera, t he serum from a patient with pe mhigus vulgaris with a si m ila r IMF -intercellular a n tibody titer was not affected by t his absorpt ion.It can be assumed t hat t h e specificity of t h e reac - tion in p emphigus is different from t hat induced by t h e Trichophyton rubrum in fectio n a lt h ou gh both may react with inte rcellula r co mponents.Cir culating antibody reactin g wit h inte rcellula r s ubstanc e of stratified squamous e pit h elium is a well -known phenomena occurring in pe mphigus vulgaris (1, 2).The demonstra t ion of these a ntibo dies in oth e r conditions has a lso been reported (3-6).F elln er and Prutki n (7) h ave recen t ly described t h eir a ppea ra n ce in two out of four patients with m orbilliform eruptions from penicil lin.Patien ts with fungus infections often develop allergic skin e rup t ions of bullous, urt icaria l, morbilliform or scarlati niform ty pes.Immediate or delayed h yperse nsitivity tests for trich ophytin a re us ually positive in t hese cases .C ultures of Trichophyton gy pseum have b een s hown to y ield several antigens upon skin testing.
