ResumoThe alcohol barrel-equivalent price to gasoline in Brazil ranges from US$36.00 to 54.00. Without large subsidies, alcohol is too costly as an alternative to gasoline. In this paper, we demonstrate that significant cost reductions can be achieved through technological improvements, increased efficiency and the use of alcohol by-products.
