Resumo

The general solution of the Laplace equation was used to calculate all contributions to coupling losses in single-layered flat and round cables with or without a central insulating layer. The total losses for different cases are compared, and it is concluded that to decrease the coupling losses in flat cables it is necessary to include an insulating layer in the core, whereas this is of little help for the round cable. In the latter case, the increase of the core resistance (and, of course, the increase of the transition resistance between the strands and the core) is much more effective for decreasing the coupling losses.
