Resumo

The existence is shown of a charged vortex of finite energy in the (2 + 1)-dimensional nonabelian Higgs model with a Chern-Simons term. By using the constrained variational calculation, the vortex energy ξ, the angular momentum J, and the magnetic moment k are estimated. Rigorous lower bounds on ξ and J are also derived. It is further shown that the lower bound is saturated for the neutral vortex provided the parameters of the model have special values and that in this case an exact vortex solution can be obtained.
