Resumo

THE XIVTH INTERNATIONAL Congress on Nutrition and Metabolism in Renal Disease will be held in Marseilles, France, from June 11 to 15, 2008. It is a great honor and a great challenge for the Local Scientific and Local Organizing Committees to prepare such an event. Together with Professor Gianfranco Guarnieri, President of the International Society of Renal Nutrition and Metabolism (ISRNM), and the Program Committee, we have developed an attractive Educational and Scientific Program. Although science will constitute the best reason to attend the 2008 ISRNM Congress, we believe that the charms of Marseilles and Provence offer another convincing reason to attend. We will do our best to make this journey to the south of France unforgettable for participants and accompanying guests. The Educational Session, on the afternoon of June 11, will focus on the implications of the nutritional and metabolic effects of kidney disease in clinical practice. The metabolic alterations induced by renal disease, such as acidosis, oxidative stress, and hyperhomocysteinemia, will be addressed first. The second part of this pre-congress course will be devoted to the relationships between nutritional status and patient outcome, with specific approaches to protein-energy wasting and metabolic syndrome. The Scientific Program, from June 12 to 14, will be particularly dense and stimulating. It will comprise 11 symposia and involve more than 50 outstanding speakers from all over the world. This program has been elaborated to address a wide range of interesting and specific topics in the fields of chronic kidney disease in adult and children, dialysis and transplantation, protein-energy wasting, muscle-mass preservation, inflammation, oxidative stress, metabolic syndrome, phosphate and calcium metabolism, sodium intake, cardiovascular complications, and the impact of genetics. This Scientific Program will be further enriched by the input of original contributions through oral communications and posters. Lastly, it will benefit from a large number of symposia organized by our industrial partners. More details of this program can be downloaded at the Congress website: www.isrnm-marseilles2008.org. Located on the Mediterranean coast of France, Marseilles is an ancient city, founded by Greek sailors in 600 BC. It will be a great pleasure for the Local Organizing Committee to welcome you and help you discover this city and its surroundings. The Congress Center was built in the park of the magnificent Pharo Palace, located at the entrance of the Marseilles Vieux-Port (Old Harbor). The Pharo Palace was built for the Empress Eugenie during the reign of Napoleon III. From this site, one can enjoy an outstanding panorama of both the town and seaside of Marseilles. Most of the hotels booked for congress attendees are located around the Vieux-Port, and are less than 15 minutes from the Congress Center. June in Marseilles is usually sunny, with an average temperature of 25°C. The Local Organizing Committee has prepared an attractive social program for accompanying guests, including a boat trip to the scenic inlets of the Marseilles Calanques and visits to the village of Baux-de-Provence and the old town of Marseilles. The farewell dinner, on Saturday, June 14, will be held in a famous vineyard in Cassis. A post-congress tour will be held on Sunday, June 15, including a guided tour of the Saint-Victor Abbey and of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde Basilica, and lunch on a 19th century boat in the Vieux-Port. The registration form for the XIVth International Congress on Nutrition and Metabolism in Renal Disease can be downloaded from the website at www.isrnm-marseilles2008.org. The deadline for early registration is March 15, 2008. Entering the Congress website will also make it possible for you to submit abstracts. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is January 15, 2008.
