ResumoSummary Since the optimistic report by Noblett on the use of Gastrografin enemas for the relief of meconium ileus, this enema technique has been used at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in all cases not complicated by perforation, peritonitis, volvulus, or associated atresia. Although successful relief of obstruction has been obtained in the majority of cases, the method is not trouble-free. There were five successful cases. One child had a perforation of the ileum treated successfully by surgery. There was one death after operation for closure of a perforation of the rectum and the surgical relief of obstruction.
