ResumoThe interaction of O 2 , H 2 O, and SO 2 on silver powder prepared from the reduction of AgNO 3 by NaBH 4 was studied by surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) at room temperature. The presence of H 2 O of about 10 3 Pa and O 2 of about 10 4 -10 5 Pa was necessary for observation of SERS peaks of SO 3 2− and SO 4 2− . The superoxide ion O 2- was observed under high partial pressure for O 2 conditions. SERS peaks of atomic oxygen, superoxide ion O 2- , SO 3 2− , and SO 4 2− disappeared on evacuation. SERS peaks of surface species such as Ag 2 O did not disappear on evacuation.
