“Ghosts” prepared by lysozyme lysis of Bacillus megaterium cells have been investigated. The numerical ratio “ghosts”/protoplasts and the average size of the “ghosts” together with the size distribution indicate that the “ghosts” under certain conditions represent morphologically undamaged cytoplasmic membranes.
