Resumo

1. Cycles of mechanical noise, with an intensity of about 30 db above background, were shown to be effective as an entraining agent for circadian locomotor activity rhythms of three species of passerine birds. 2. The same noise stimulus, provided continually for several days, has a weak but significant lengthening effect upon free-running period. 3. These results suggest that laboratory noises must be considered in the interpretation of circadian rhythms under constant conditions of light and temperature.
