ResumoThis article examines the effect of remittances on high school attendance of youth 16–20 years old in the Republic of Moldova in the districts of Causeni, Floresti, Straseni and in the municipalities of Balti and Chisinau. Using an instrumental variable approach, it was found that remittances have an insignificant effect on high school attendance. While the education level of the mother seems to play an important role in a youth’s education, the father’s level of education had no significant effect. The higher the number of siblings and residence in a rural area had a negatively affect high school attendance. The results showed that almost 3/4 of the young people surveyed intend to migrate abroad mainly due to economic reasons such as the lack of suitable and well – paid jobs.
