Resumo

AbstractAlbert Eckhout worked in Brazil between 1637 and 1644. The National Museum of Denmark possesses a collection of his paintings, supposedly painted in Brazil. A technical examination of the paintings and a search of old documents showed no definite evidence about where they were painted and there is even some doubt about the authenticity of the signatures. Some of the paintings have a paste lining preserved from the mid-seventeenth century.
