Resumo

Abstract This paper argues that the emergence of a global economy has led to new lines of conflict between transnational corporations (TNCs) and civil society actors. While the efficiency of state regulation seems to have diminished, transnational protest groups have been able to challenge TNCs and enforce certain standards upon them. The paper discusses the conflict between the Mitsubishi Corporation and rainforest protection groups in order to identify the mechanisms behind this and similar conflicts.
