Resumo

Abstract Studies have been carried out on the electrical resistivity of single, second stage, alkali metal intercalated fibers (ex-PAN, ex-mesophase and benzene derived) from 4.2 to about 550K. Below 300K, the benzene-derived materials and certain mesophase materials possess resistivity transitions at temperatures comparable to those at which structural changes are known to occur in the analogous HOPG compounds. Above 300K, anomalous behaviour is also noted, corresponding either to marked changes in slope or to sudden increases in resistivity. The results are discussed in terms of decreasing intercalant order as the temperature rises, comparison being made with the HOPG counterparts.
