Composition of colony and reproduction of Molossus rufus (E.Geoffroy) (Chiroptera, Molossidae) in roost at Southeastern Brazil.In this sludy carried out in the Biological Reserve of Poço das Antas, Rio de Janeiro state, soulheastern Brazil, a roost of MoLossus rufus (E.Geoffroy, 1805) was sampled one night per monlh, from November 2000 to October, 200 I. Th. e colonies in this species can exceed more than five hundreds, being present both sexes.The total number of animais captured was higher in the spring and decIined in the autumn and wi nter.Between April to Jul y the proportion of males overcome lhe females, while in other months lhe females prevailed.MoLossLls rufus have seasonal reproduction.Females arrived by July and the number increases until November.Few animais remained in lhis roost during colder months.Such fact suggests lhat females and great part of the males leave this roof afterthe end of lhe reproduction .Pregnant females were captured between September, October, November and February.Lactati ng females were observed in August, October, November, December and February.Active n'lales were observed in ali months, being overcome by males with abdominal testes only in July.
