ResumoWe have been investigating two DNA-dependent ATPases from Escherichia coli, the type-I restriction endonuclease from E. coli B (EcoB) and exonuclease V (the recBC enzyme) of E. coli K12. This paper summarizes the results of our most recent studies of the mechanism of action of these enzymes in vitro and attempts to relate these mechanisms to in vivo functions.
