ResumoThe second, fourth, sixth and tenth harmonics of the amplified output from a mode-locked Nd:glass laser have been generated in a cascaded process involving nonlinear crystals and inert gases. Using a modified Photochron II streak camera with a gold line-photocathode the temporal profiles of the VUV pulses have been recorded with a resolution of 5 ps. Subnanosecond resolution was also achieved using a photodiode incorporating a microchannel plate.
