ResumoThe reaction of tetramethyltetrazene with Me 3 Al:NMe 3 , Et 3 Al, and H 3 Al:NMe 3 has led to a new method for the preparation of (Me 2 Al—NMe 2 ) 2 , (Et 2 Al—NMe 2 ) 2 , and H 2 Al—NMe 2 , respectively. The reaction of tetramethyltetrazene with Me 3 Al has produced Al(NMe 2 ) 3 , MeAl(NMe 2 ) 2 , and Me 2 Al—NMe 2 , and with Et 3 Al:NMe 3 has produced Et 3 Al:Me 2 NN=NNMe 2 , Et 2 Al—NMe 2 , and the polymer (—AlEtNEt—) n . In all but one case, the complexes are formed by the interaction of a dimethylamine radical, which results from the cleavage of Me 2 NN=NNMe 2 , with the aluminum moiety and the subsequent elimination of an alkane or hydrogen.
