THE neuropharmacologic properties of the many benzodiazepine derivatives available for clinical use are qualitatively similar if not identical.1 , 2 Nonetheless, new benzodiazepines continue to be marketed and promoted as "unique" agents for the treatment of anxiety or insomnia.3 Thus, there is a need for critical comparative assessment of new benzodiazepine derivatives as they are introduced to clinical use.
