Consumo de Tabaco entre la Población escolar. Factores Relacionados

Conocer la prevalencia de tabaquismo entre los escolares y examinar los factores asociados con el consumo. Estudio transversal, de base poblacional por encuesta de salud. Se encuestaron 548 escolares de 6° y 8° de EGB de los colegios de una Zona Básica de Salud de Córdoba. Intervenciones: Cuestionario autoadministrado. El 22% (IC95%: 18,7 - 25,8) habían probado el tabaco. La edad media de inicio en el consumo fue 11,6 años (IC95%: 11,4 - 11,8). Un 12,1% de los alumnos fumaba, de los que el 1,3% lo hacía a diario. El consumo de tabaco se asoció con la edad (OR = 2,96; IC95%: 1,12 - 7,82), la ingesta de medicamentos para la tos (OR = 3,15; IC95%: 1,32 - 7,48), tener una hermana mayor fumadora (OR = 2,53; IC95%: 1,06 - 6,00), el hábito tabáquico del mejor amigo (OR = 4,42; IC95%: 1,85 - 10,60) y beber cerveza (OR = 3,68; IC95%: 1,15 - 11,7). La prevalencia de tabaquismo en nuestro medio es muy similar a la que se comunica en otros estudios. Entre los factores relacionados con el tabaquismo en el escolar destaca la presencia de este hábito entre las hermanas y los amigos. A cross-sectional study. 548 school-children in their 6 th and 8 th years of primary studies at schools from an Área of Córdoba (Spain) were inerviewed. Interventions: Autoadministered questionnary. tobacco was tried in 22% (CI95%: 18.7 - 25.8) school- children. The average age for starting with this habit was 11,6 (SD) (CI 95%: 11.4 - 11.8). 12.1% smoked regularly and 1.3% smokers every day. The tobacco consumption in children was related with age (OR = 2.96; CI95%: 1.12 - 7.82), cough medicins consumption (OR = 3.15; CI95%: 1.32 - 7.48), to have a smokers sister (OR =2.53; CI95%: 1.06 - 6.00) and best friend (OR = 4.42; CI95%: 1.85 - 10.60) and drinking bear (OR = 3.68; CI95%: 1.15 - 11.7). The prevalence of smoking in our school-children is very close to that reported by others. Among the factors accounted with the tobacco consumption in schoolchildren, highlight the presence of this habit in the eldest sister and the best friend.
