ResumoIsotopic temperatures determined from Oligocene and Miocene sections of Atlantic deep-sea cores indicate rather uniform temperatures. Periodic temperature changes similar to those of the Pleistocene did not occur during the Tertiary, apparently because of the unfavorable topographic pattern. Temperatures of an Oligocene core are similar to the modern ones in the area where it was raised, but temperatures of two Miocene cores are lower. This suggests, for the latter, less importance of the Florida current than at present, and polar displacement.
