Autores ResumoQuestions are posed for the understanding of Wilamowitz. The sources for a biography are discussed: the Family Chronicle, family memoirs, autobiographies, interviews, eyewitness accounts. There is especial emphasis on the challenge of using scholarly works as autobiographical documents and on the letters, the bones of any biography. Wilamowitz is estimated to have written ca. 67000 letters in his lifetime. Some 4000 (plus some 2000 to him) survive. Finally certain problems in Wilalllowitz’ life are discussed in the light of the new material.
