The ribosomal DNA amount of the flax variety 'Stormont Cirrus' was determined during its growth under inducing conditions. Under one set of conditions the rDNA amount increased while under a different set of conditions there was a decrease in this amount. The change in the rDNA content occurred during a short period of the growth under inducing conditions. The plants in which decreased rDNA amounts had been induced transmitted this reduced level to their progeny.
