Old age is no guardian against the forces that breed violence in the home. Child abuse and spouse beating are now common knowledge, if their causes and cures are less well understood. Since the late 1970's a third form of family violence, no less shocking or socially damaging, has emerged into public consciousness: elder abuse.1
