In a recent review of the literature, 33 cases of patients with androgen-associated hepatic tumors were reported (2); 14 of these patients had received androgens as therapy for Fanconi's anemia, and 19 patients, for various other, potentially androgen-responsive illnesses. We have recently cared for a young man who developed a primary hepatic malignancy after taking androgens to increase his skeletal muscle mass. This patient represents the first reported case of such a malignancy in an otherwise healthy athlete taking androgens for this...References1. RECANTLACY LP. Fanconi's anaemia and hepatic cirrhosis.
