Recently developed techniques in non-linear dynamics are used to show that the dynamics of poliomyelitis epidemics in Denmark may be described by a simple non-linear one-dimensional difference equation supplemented with low levels of stochastic perturbations. This equation demonstrates that epidemics of poliomyelitis in Denmark from 1928–1958 were chaotic.
